![]() ![]() The ninth book in the series, The Choice, is named for this important decision, which Jimena makes at the end of the book. Of course, if a Daughter stops being a Daughter before her metamorphosis - for example, to become a Follower - then the choice does not need to be made. When a Daughter reaches her seventeenth birthday, she must make an important choice: either give up her powers and all her memories of life as a Daughter or to disappear. The myth is described in the prologue of Goddess of the Night, which tells that Endymion gave Selene many daughters "to guard the night." The Daughters origin is explained by the myth of the moon goddess Selene and her lover Endymion. The series centers on four or five Daughters throughout, although there have been other Daughters in the past and it is possible that perhaps there are others in the world. The Daughters of the Moon are mortal goddesses whose destiny is to fight an ancient evil called the Atrox and its Followers. ![]()
